While the most ancient perfume bottles, called alabaster, were formed of its namesake material, quickly their makers turned to glass in patterns mimicking lapis and marble. The elongated, drop-like vessels held cedar, rose, amber, and myrrh, among other popular oils, variously chosen for their soothing or sensual qualities. Our aquamarine alabastra are topped with gold caps, suspended from a post-backed gold-and-sapphire oval.
